Karen: Barranquilla's Carnival or Carnival de Barranquilla is Colombian's
most important folklore celebration, and is the biggest carnival in the world
behind The Rio de Janeiro's Carnival. Forty days before Holy Week, Barranquilla
receive national and foreign tourists, and join together with the city's
inhabitants to enjoy four days of intense festivities. During the carnival
Barranquilla's normal activities are paralyzed because the city gets busy with
street dances, musical and masquerade parades. Barranquilla's Carnival includes
dances like the Spanish paloteo, African Congo and indigenous mico and micas.
Many styles of Colombian music are also performed, most prominently cumbia, and
instruments include drums and wind ensembles.
Barranquilla's Carnival slogan is: Who lives it, is who enjoys it (Quien
lo vive, es quien lo goza).
Karen: The Cali's Fair is
the most important cultural event in Cali, Colombia. It is a celebration of the
region's cultural identity, famous for the Salsa marathon, horse riding parades
and dance parties.
"La Feria de Cali"
is the main cultural event on the Pacific Coast of Colombia. It promotes cultural, ethnical, and musical
diversity in the region. In a few occasions the Fair included Vallenato and
Merengue groups from Colombian and samba schools from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
People enjoy many activities tascas, salsa concerts, athletic
activities/competitions and cultural exhibitions.
Karen: Blacks and Whites' Carnival (Spanish: Carnaval de Negros y
Blancos), is the largest carnival celebration in Colombia, in the city of Pasto.
It’s celebrated in January of each year and attracts a considerable number of
Colombian and foreign tourists, Tribute to the Virgin of Mercy, Colonies
Parade, and Rock Day, The Carnavalito, Blacks' Day , Whites' Day , Great Parade
, Rural Culture & Cuy's Festival.
